Summit Junior Baseball announces the opening of 2010 Spring Travel Registrations--Click on the Register Online Tab located on the SJBB home page to Register!

If your child is interested in participating in Spring Travel – please read the below, in it’s entirety, there are some material changes to the program this season.

We are pleased to announce the opening of SJBB’s 2010 spring travel program beginning today (01/11).  Our objective in organizing this program is to afford committed players ages 10 through 13 additional opportunities to develop their skills through playing in a competitive Spring Travel League.

The organization will enroll teams in the Cerbo National Baseball League, which has a schedule consisting of ten regular season games (including double headers), plus playoffs.  Parents should note that travel to away games may be extensive.

The Spring Travel program requires a full and serious commitment to baseball.  As such teams will have strict participation requirements regarding practices and participation.

Parents should consider the degree of commitment required before enrolling.  Participants are required to be at all games, practice sessions and clinics that do not conflict with their rec team’s schedule.

The spring travel program (ST) is an adjunct to SJBB’s spring rec. program—not an alternative.  As such, all players registering for ST also must register for and participate in the rec program.

Registrations will be accepted on-line beginning today.  A late fee will be assessed beginning February 1st.  All players must be registered before February 5.  Credit card payment will be required ONLY upon a player’s placement on a team, after tryouts.  NOTE – not all players registering & trying out will make a team.

Teams will be organized by age, utilizing an April 30th cut-off.  13U will participate on the 60/90 field.  12U on the 50/70 field, 11U and 10U will each participate on the 46/60 field.

As of yet, the league has not selected any coaches.   SJBB encourages coaches to volunteer for all its travel teams – new applicants are welcome.  Please indicate on your child’s application if you have an interest in volunteering as a head coach or assistant coach.  Also, please indicate if you have an interest in helping the coaches with organization by volunteering as a team manager.

Please note that there are a few material differences compared with last year’s spring travel program.  These include:

·         Only one team will be selected per age group. As such, all players registering for ST will be required to try out through the rec program’s evaluation process and will be observed by independent evaluators.   (Please look to the SJBB event calendar for evaluation dates.)

·         If a significant number of players try out, parents should recognize that cuts will become likely.

·         Upon selection of ST teams, coaches will select as many as six pitchers in 10U, five pitchers 11U and above.  These players will be prohibited from pitching in the rec program on Saturdays, and may also be restricted on Mondays if they pitch in a ST Sunday game.  This change has been made to ensure the health and safety of the pitcher’s arm, safeguarding against over use.

  • Players selected to participate on the LCJ Middle School team are ineligible to participate on SJBB’s spring travel team, as the commitment required appears to be more than is advisable.

Some additional considerations:

·         No player may participate in ST without being evaluated.

  • Participation in Spring Travel is not a prerequisite for, nor will it have any bearing whatsoever on, SJBB’s Summer Travel team tryout and team selection process.

Fees:  The cost of the program is $150 per player.

If a player participated in last year’s spring program and does not require a new jersey, please indicate so, The fee will be reduced $40 to $110.00.

Please indicate your child’s jersey size on your registration.
