Team Overview
The SJBB middle school baseball team begins in early March and concludes the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend. This is a five-day per week commitment that includes practices and a 22 game schedule. This is an elite team for 7th and 8th grade boys who are registered with SJBB. Players earn a spot on the roster during a try-out process.
Games are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. Home games will be played predominantly at Wilson Field. Regular season practices will take place from 3:30-5:30 at Wilson Field, unless otherwise noted. Players are responsible for their own transportation to all games and practices.
There will be no games or practices during weekends or spring break. Daily adjustments to the schedule will be available in Coach Cohen's classroom (271) for all players and on this website for parents.
This team is coached by Ike Welsh and Larry Cohen, both of whom are teachers at LCJSMS.

Berkeley Heights – Columbia Middle School: 345 Plainfield Ave, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922
Travel on Springfield Avenue into Berkeley Heights to Plainfield Avenue. Turn LEFT at light on to Plainfield Avenue. Go for half-a-mile. Columbia Middle School is on the right. Baseball field is located behind the school.
Millburn/Short Hills – Travel Team: Pingry Lower School Field, Short Hills
Take Summit Ave through Summit to 24 East service road. Take a right onto the 24 East service road. Turn left at Hobart Ave. Continue onto White Oak Ridge Rd (CR 608). Continue on White Oak Ridge Rd. until it intersects with Parsonage Hill Road. The field will be on your right at near side of the intersection.
North Plainfield – North Plainfield High School, 34 Wilson Avenue, North Plainfield, NJ 07063
After turning right onto Morris and then right onto Glenside, bear left at the next light onto Summit Road. Summit Road goes all the way down the hill to Route 22 west. Continue on 22 into North Plainfield. Take the Exit for Wilson Avenue and cross back over Rte. 22. North Plainfield High School is on the left.
Pingry – The Pingry School: Martinsville Road, Martinsville, NJ 08836
Go West on Rte. 78. Take Exit 33 (Martinsville). Turn LEFT on to Liberty Corner/Martinsville Road and go South for 2.3 miles to Pingry School campus on the right.
Scotch Plains – Park Middle School: 580 Park Avenue – Scotch Plains, NJ 07076
After turning right onto Morris and then right onto Glenside, bear left at the next light onto Summit Road. Summit Road goes all the way down the hill to Route 22 west. Continue on 22 into Scotch Plains. Skip the small right directly after the McDonald’s, and take the next right at the sign for Scotch Plains/Fanwood/78. Go to the light (just a few yards) and make a left. Go over 22 and bear right at the bottom of the hill (Snuffy’s). That’s Park Ave. Continue through town and Park Middle School will be on your right.
Scotch Plains – Terrill Middle School: 1301 Terrill Road – Scotch Plains, NJ 07076
After turning right onto Morris and then right onto Glenside, bear left at the next light onto Summit Road. Summit Road goes all the way down the hill to Route 22 west. Continue on 22 into Scotch Plains. Turn right at the jughandle turn at Terrill Road (Sears on left, Mother Seton on right). You cross over Terrill and the jughandle takes you back to the right to get on it. Continue on Terrill and the school will be on your left.
Union – Kawameeh Middle School: 490 David Terrace, Union, NJ 07083
Take Morris Avenue East through Springfield and Union for about 3.8 miles to Burke Parkway. Make a RIGHT on to Burke Parkway, which becomes Selfmaster Parkway. Follow Selfmaster to Burroughs Terrace. Go LEFT on to Burroughs, LEFT on to Andress Street, and RIGHT on to David Avenue. Kawameeh M.S. is right there.
Watchung – Valley View MS: Philips Field, Brookdale Road, South Plainfield, NJ 07080
Take a right on Morris Ave. Turn right on Glenside Ave. Take the ramp for 78 W. Take exit 40. Turn left at Hillcrest Rd. Turn right at Valley Road / CR 527 S. Slight left on Stirling Rd /CR 527 S. Slight right at Mountain Blvd / CR 527 S. Take the 1st right onto Brookdale Rd. Look for a bridge on the left. Follow bridge through the woods up to the field.
West Essex Middle School: 65 West Greenbook Road, Caldwell, NJ 07006
Take JFK Parkway and travel to Livingston Avenue. Turn LEFT on to Eagle Rock Avenue. At the 3rd light, turn RIGHT on to Passaic
Avenue. Go 4.6 miles and turn RIGHT on to West Greenbrook Avenue (across from the airport). Go 0.2 miles and turn LEFT on to Jay L. Hand Drive. West Essex Senior High School is located on the left; the Junior High School is directly behind, on top of the hill.
Westfield – Edison Middle School: Tamaques Park, Westfield, NJ 07090
When in downtown Westfield, take a left on Central Ave. Turn right on Grove St. Turn left on Rahway Ave. Turn right on Willow Grove Road. Turn left on Dickson drive. Make another right and the fields will be on your left.
Westfield – Roosevelt Middle School: 301 Clark Street, Westfield, NJ 07090
After turning right onto Morris and then right onto Glenside, bear left at the next light onto Summit Road. Summit Road goes all the way down the hill to Route 22 west. Continue on Route 22 west for a short distance. At your first opportunity, make a u-turn onto 22 east. Turn right at Mountain Ave (CR-613). Turn right on East Dudley
Ave. Turn left on Clark St. The school will be on your right.
