In December 2001, SJBB and the Summit Board of Recreation agreed to transfer the Board of Recreation's girls softball program to Summit Junior Baseball. There were a number of reasons for this transfer. In particular was SJBB's desire to bring its 31 years of experience running a top notch baseball program to bear to develop a quality girls fast pitch softball program for Summit.
In 2001 SJBB reviewed and repositioned the girls softball program. The program was expanded to include second grade, and partnerships with surrounding towns were explored. In 2004, Summit joined up with Springfield to provide a competitive and fun experience for for players in grades 4-8.

For girls in graders 2 and 3, (Softball Transition League), the emphasis is on fun and familiarization with the game. (Click here for Details).
For girls in grades 4 and 5, (Softball Junior League), the level of competition increases a bit as pitching becomes part of the equation and games are played against Summit and Springfield teams. (Click here for Details).
For girls in grades 6, 7 and 8 (Softball Senior League), the object is to take the play to the next level. Girls playing on the Summit Middle School (SMS) Girls Softball Team are offered the option of playing with the Summit Girls Fast Speed 6- 8th grade teams. Coaches work with the Summit Middle School staff to avoid scheduling conflicts. One immediate benefit of this approach is that with the SGFS season ending the 3rd week of June and the SMS season ending in mid-May, those girls on both teams will get an additional 4 weeks of games before their summer vacation starts.
